Exterior Painting Services
Slough Decorators cover pebbledash, rendered facades, sash windows, fascias, and front doors across Cippenham, Langley, Chalvey, Burnham, and Wexham.
Pebbledash and Masonry Walls
Pebbledash is near-universal on the 1930s semi-detached stock across Cippenham, Langley, and Upton. It is aggregate cast into an original cement and lime render base that has hardened over ninety years. Painting directly onto pebbledash without a consolidating primer coat causes delamination within two seasons, regardless of topcoat quality.
We apply a consolidating primer to the full pebbledash face before any masonry paint goes on. Where previous owners have applied standard masonry paint directly, we assess each existing layer for adhesion. Hollow-sounding sections must be raked back before primer is applied. Cippenham Lane properties facing the prevailing south-westerly weather carry more degraded pebbledash on front and side elevations than the rear.
Rendered Walls and Mixed Facades
Rendered terraces and semis in Chalvey and the Slough central streets have fine surface crazing from decades of thermal movement. These fine cracks open and close with the seasons. Applying masonry paint over crazed render traps water at the crack, which sits behind the film and blisters at the next frost cycle.
We fill cracks with flexible exterior filler, apply a stabilising solution over the whole elevation, and then coat with a breathable masonry paint. For deeper substrate detail on render, pebbledash, and brick, see our masonry painting page. Period elevations in Burnham with lime render need a specifically breathable product that does not trap moisture and cause spalling at the render face. Lime-render and conservation-area substrates are covered in full on our period property painting page.
Sash Windows and Exterior Woodwork
Sash windows appear throughout the Burnham villa stock and on period cottages in the Stoke Poges SL2 fringe. Decades of repainting accumulate paint in the sash boxes and parting beads, eventually causing the sashes to bind. We clear the rebates, sand back to stable material, back-prime any bare timber, and apply a flexible exterior topcoat.
Executive detached homes in Wexham from the 1980s and 1990s on Templewood Lane carry timber fascias, barge boards, and outbuilding joinery alongside any original windows. We treat these as a coordinated programme rather than leaving outbuildings past their cycle.
Fascias, Soffits, and Gutters
Timber fascias and soffits protect the roof line. Where they have started to deteriorate, water finds its way into the roof structure from behind rather than from above. We repaint sound timber fascias and advise on replacement where the underlying material is no longer stable. uPVC fascias and guttering can be repainted with an appropriate adhesion primer and a compatible finish coat where condition allows.
Front Doors, Porches, and Outbuildings
Original timber front doors on Cippenham and Langley 1930s semis have typically been repainted many times since the 1930s. That build-up buries the original moulding profile and causes sticking at all four door edges. We strip back to stable timber, apply a proper wood primer, and topcoat with durable exterior gloss or satin.
For a coordinated full external and internal programme, see our house painting page. Steel roller shutters and commercial unit fronts are covered under our commercial painting page.

Here’s How It Works
1. Site Assessment
We visit every elevation, check surface type, assess existing coating condition, test pebbledash for hollow areas, and inspect render for crazing. We identify all repair work needed before any painting starts.
2. Biological Growth Treatment
Moss, algae, and lichen are treated with a mould treatment and allowed to fully dry before any mechanical cleaning. North-facing elevations in the Stoke Poges fringe, where mature tree canopy reduces solar drying, often need a second treatment on the most affected face.
3. Surface Preparation
Pebbledash receives a consolidating primer. Crazed render is filled and stabilised. Loose sections are raked back and made good. Bare timber on windows and joinery is stripped to stable material and back-primed.
4. Paint Application
Exterior coatings need dry conditions and temperatures above 5 degrees during application and cure. We plan application phases around the Thames Valley weather window. Two finish coats are standard. South-west facing elevations on Cippenham and Langley semis are checked again after the first coat cures before the second goes on.
5. Inspection and Handover
Once the final coat has cured, we inspect every elevation in good daylight. Touch-ups are completed before we leave. We walk through the finished work with you before closing the job.
Exterior Painting Costs in Slough
Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01753 303456 for a precise quote.
Exterior painting across Slough’s residential stock typically costs between GBP 1,500 and GBP 7,500, depending on property size, surface condition, and the extent of woodwork involved.

Surface Condition
Pebbledash in poor condition on a Cippenham or Langley semi requires more primer and preparation time than a facade in good order. Loose sections, previously painted pebbledash with adhesion problems, and crazed render in Chalvey terraces all add preparation time at the start.
Joinery Extent
Burnham and Wexham properties carry significantly more exterior timber than a standard volume semi. Original sash windows, outbuilding joinery, and period fascia details add to the total but are what give the finished property its character.
Access Requirements
Most 1930s and post-war semis can be accessed from a tower scaffold. Larger detached properties in Burnham and Wexham may require a full scaffold wrap. Access costs are included in the quote from the outset, not added once work begins.
Weather Exposure Insight
Prevailing south-westerly weather hits the front and side elevations of Cippenham and Langley semis hardest. These elevations carry more weathering damage than the rear. Budget for primer on both windward elevations, not just the most visible face.
Typical ranges: 1930s pebbledash semi in Cippenham or Langley (front, side returns, soffits, fascias) GBP 2,200 to GBP 3,600 including primer coat, flexible filler, and two topcoats of flexible masonry paint; mixed rendered mid-terrace in Chalvey (front and party-wall return, crazed render treated and filled) GBP 1,100 to GBP 1,900; executive detached in Wexham (smooth render elevations and full external timber programme including fascias, barge boards, and outbuilding joinery) GBP 4,500 to GBP 7,000.
