Bathroom Renovation in Slough

Bathroom renovations in post-war semis across Slough frequently follow a full strip-out where the original plaster comes away with old tiles. The replacement surface is new plasterboard or sand-and-cement render.

The primer stage matters more in a bathroom than in any other room. A standard trade primer applied to new render or plasterboard in a bathroom will absorb moisture at every shower cycle and fail behind the topcoat.

We use a moisture-tolerant primer as a standard step on all bathroom renovation projects, not an upgrade. Where new sand-and-cement render is in place, the primer must also manage alkali content during early cure.

Render or plasterboard goes on. The render cures. We apply our sealing coat and primer. After that, the tiler works. After tiling, we return to complete the wall areas above and below the tile line, the ceiling, and any woodwork.

We discuss the programme with you and the trades at the start. Working out of sequence creates rework — paint marking from the tiler, or tile adhesive contaminating a primed surface.

Period properties in Burnham and the Stoke Poges fringe sometimes have original lime plaster behind removed bathroom suites. Lime plaster is more absorbent and carries more moisture than modern gypsum.

Tiling contractors often hand over before the render has dried sufficiently. Any decoration work started too soon causes blistering at the first heated shower cycle.

We observe a minimum cure period and verify surface condition before the first coat goes on. We will not prime over a wet surface regardless of scheduling pressure.
